Students vote Armed Forces as being the best at using social media for graduate recruitment

The Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force were all voted frontrunners for the Best Use of Social Media award at this year's  TARGETjobs National Graduate Recruitment Awards, ahead of other category contenders, Amazon, Cancer Research UK, Google, Sky, Tesco, Unilever and Virgin Media.

The military branches were all entered individually with the Navy and the Air Force coming in a respective second and third place, and the Army taking the award home for the third year in a row.

The results came from a survey of 52,000 students and recent graduates from 120 different universities in a national survey conducted each year by international research firm trendence.

It was a particularly successful night for the Army who also won Best Graduate Recruitment Website, this time voted for by a select panel of students, as well as being runners-up for both Innovation on Campus and Best Student Marketing Campaign.

“The results demonstrate that the use of social media by the Armed Forces really is exemplary when it comes to graduate recruitment.” said Simon Rogers, Director of GTI Media.

“From survey entries and student panel comments, we saw that students and recent graduates were very impressed at the innovative use of photos, videos and articles throughout their social media, to effectively demonstrate military career options and graduate recruitment development. Students were also impressed at the abundance of information and insights made available to them through a wide variety of social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and their own on-site blogs.”

Now in its twelfth year, the TARGETjobs National Graduate Recruitment Awards are the one of the largest graduate recruitment awards event in Europe. The awards were presented by Jack Whitehall and attended by over 1,000 guests from the world of graduate recruitment.
