Sky explores alternative method to recruit technology graduates
Tuesday, July 26, 2016

How to best find, assess and select the most skilled and passionate graduates for high-demand early career programmes is an issue faced by many companies, particularly for tech employers, where the search for talent is becoming increasingly competitive.

Which is why last year, Sky decided to explore a more dynamic method of attracting candidates and raising awareness of their graduate technology programmes.

Teaming-up with TARGETjobs Events, they launched Explore Sky: Technology Insight Day an exclusive event for undergraduates from any degree discipline looking at careers in software engineering and technology. A highly selective event, students went through a rigorous selection process to land a place. Rather than focusing on area of study, Sky looked to attract innovative and creative students able to demonstrate a real passion for technology.

As part of the day, undergraduates spent a day at Sky HQ and took part in practical sessions designed to showcase their skills and personality. They also networked with the recruitment team, recent graduate employees and senior managers to hear first-hand about technology opportunities open to them on Sky’s Software Academy and Technology programmes.

“Technology forms a huge part of everything we do and is embedded in the products and services we provide our customers.” said Amandeep Jaspal, senior consultant at Sky. “This is why last year we ran Explore Sky and were delighted with the calibre of students attending. As a result of the experience, many students who pursued their interest in Sky were successful in our assessment process and will join us on graduate programmes this summer.”

The event proved to be such a success that not only will Sky be hosting another Technology Insight Day in September this year, but have decided to branch-out and host an additional Finance Insight Day for graduates interested in Finance-related careers at the company.

Kirsty Drummond, group account director at TARGETjobs Events says: “Having worked with Sky on the successful launch of Explore Sky, TARGETjobs is thrilled to partner with them once again on not just one, but two events this year! Sky offers incredible opportunities to the right graduates, and we’re excited to be able to help these graduates showcase their potential.”

Explore Sky: A tech insight day will take place on Tuesday 20th September 2016 at Sky HQ, Osterley. Students wishing to apply can go to
