The inaugural gradireland Undergraduate of the Year Awards

15 / 04 / 2022Nick King

The inaugural gradireland Undergraduate of the Year finals took place on 14 April 2022 at The Morrison Hotel in Dublin as the culmination of a new student awards program in Ireland.

Each award was in partnership with a leading graduate employer with prizes including paid internships, mentoring sessions, and time with senior leaders. Winners also received invites to the gradireland Graduate Recruitment Awards 2022, where they had the opportunity to network and meet with the sponsoring organisations.

700 entries were received from universities and institutions across Ireland. Each applicant went through a rigorous selection process to find outstanding students in subject areas such as management, innovation and business. The application process consisted of online questions about the partner organisation, a serious of online tests and an assessment centre/interview held by the partner organisation.

The program will now be rolled out as an annual fixture in Higher Education in Ireland, aimed at finding and celebrating the best undergraduate talent in Ireland.

Alanah Neenan, winner of the Undergraduate of the Year Award for Innovation 2022, said:

“It's an amazing experience to have all your hard work recognised on such a national scale, especially by the partnered companies that we have here today!

Katie McNicholas, winner of the Female Undergraduate of the Year Award 2022, said:

“I definitely recommend anyone to just go for it, even if you think that you might not have a shot at it, everyone has something to bring to the table, just be yourself throughout the process as I think that’s really recognised and appreciated.”

Four overall winners were announced on the day by gradireland’s Managing Director, Gavan O’Brien.

Gavan O’Brien, Managing Director, gradireland said:

“It was an honour to host this event, and we look forward to making it an integral part of the gradireland event calendar. Huge thank you to our partners who helped make it happen: Aldi Ireland, Jameson International Graduate Programme, Lidl Ireland, Diageo and SHL.”
