The UK’s largest careers survey of school and college students is launched by GTI Media and CASCAID
Wednesday, January 21, 2015 - 11:45

GTI Media and CASCAID, with a combined total of more than 65 years’ experience of careers information and guidance, have launched today the largest careers survey of school and college students in the UK: the trendence School Leaver Barometer 2015. Building on the experience gained from the well-received 2014 survey, this year we will reach more students, more schools and produce even more useful data for schools, parents, employers and universities.

Although the graduate careers and recruitment market is well served with survey information revealing students’ job aspirations and employer choices, the career intentions and experiences of school/college students are less well known. Many major employers of graduates are currently looking seriously at recruiting school leavers, especially as increased university fees may persuade some students not to go on to higher education. This survey research will provide employers and universities with information to help shape their attraction and recruitment campaigns and will provide schools with intelligence to develop their own guidance and information provision.

The trendence School Leaver Barometer will survey around 14,000 school/college students from now until the end of March and the findings will be available to employers, universities, schools and the Government in Summer 2015. The survey explores Year 10-13 students’ experience of careers guidance and information, access to employers, career plans and their choice of job, employer, apprenticeship or university. The survey has been built and designed by international research firm trendence, who have conducted a similar survey in German schools for over a decade.

Graham Storey, CEO of GTI Media said: “GTI Media is thrilled to be working with CASCAID on the second annual trendence School Leaver Barometer, the UK’s largest careers survey of school and college students. It’s clear that recruiters from all sectors are desperate for more information about the thoughts, career plans and employer awareness of the current generation of school students, as more of them invest in apprenticeships and school leaver programmes alongside their graduate recruitment activity.”

Richard Harrison, Chief Executive of CASCAID said, “We are delighted to be launching the 2015 survey for school and college students. The 2014 research discovered how young people really feel about the careers support they receive and their future options in terms of where they might want to study and who they want to work for. The survey is a great indicator of what impact careers and employer inspiration activity is having in schools and colleges. The results will give us incredibly valuable insight which employers, educational institutions and policy makers can use to gauge the aspirations and plans of young people who will be joining the labour market in the coming years.”
