Entries for ‘Best university employability strategy’ now open!

Entries for the TARGETjobs National Graduate Recruitment Awards 2018 are now open. Once again, we will be presenting an award for ‘Best university employability strategy’.

This award celebrates the achievements being made by higher education institutions to ensure that their undergraduates are best equipped to achieve their potential when searching and applying for graduate roles and transitioning to employment.

Last year, Newcastle University took the award home, helped by their introduction of an innovative policy to increase placements across all courses, recognising the importance of work experience to employers.

If you think your university offers the very best in careers and employability student support, then click here for more information.

Brand new content on targetjobs.co.uk

There’s plenty of new content live on the TARGETjobs website. Here are a few highlights.

With unpaid internships still very much on the scene, we’ve compiled a new article on the law around these, to help students understand their rights.
For students wishing to train as solicitors, hitting the right deadlines is key. Here’s our round-up of this year’s training contract deadlines. NB Some firms have scrapped the traditional 31 July deadline, and now use winter and spring deadlines for training contracts starting in 2020. Moving back a step, deadlines for vacation schemes at solicitors’ firms are scattered between October and February. Make sure your students don’t miss vacation scheme deadlines this winter!
‘How do you handle stress?’ It’s a tricky interview question, so take a look at our new advice on how to handle it.

TARGETjobs events

We still have some brilliant events coming up that are a great opportunity for your students to impress and be noticed by leading employers! These include:

TARGETjobs National Pupillage Fair 2017
When? Saturday 25 November
Where? Gray’s Inn, London
Who’s it for? Anyone considering a career in law
How to register? targetjobs.co.uk/events/national-pupillage-fair

As the UK’s only national pupillage fair, this is an opportunity for any students considering a career at the Bar to meet representatives from chambers, course providers and many more, and to get their questions answered.

We also have our employability networking events; IT’s not just for the boys! and Future female engineers coming up in November! Students will get an exclusive insight into the industry and find out key tips on how they can achieve their dream career! Students can apply at targetjobs.co.uk/events.

A new service from TARGETconnect

TARGETconnect continues to make great strides amongst the university community and the latest version features a new job distribution service, whereby a vacancy entered into one university can be sent to others in the network. This new service is called TARGETconnect Link and its rollout has started with two groups of universities, one in London and the other in Scotland. National rollout is about to commence. This is a unique service, whereby the jobs actually appear with those posted locally to the university’s job board, thereby increasing the opportunities open to your students.
