This year TARGETjobs’ ‘IT’s not just for the boys!’ event will partner with BlackRock - the world's largest asset management company. BlackRock will be the headline programme partner for the event, and will host 2 of the 3 events taking place in 2017/18.
Now in its eighth year, ‘IT’s not just for the boys!’ seeks to address the urgent need for more female graduates in the technology sector. Through a series of inspiring talks, structured networking, skills-building workshops, technology-based team challenges and recruiter discussions, it gives female students an exclusive opportunity to experience the passion and excitement of working in technology and to speak directly to firms offering fantastic career opportunities, in varying industries.
For almost a decade the event has attracted thousands of female students who are required to undertake a rigorous selection process to attend the event. In 2016, nearly 800 undergraduates from over 80 different UK universities applied to the programme, with more than 250 selected to participate in one of the events.
Anthony Eggington, managing director in the Aladdin Product Group (BlackRock’s technology department) said:
‘BlackRock has grown to be the world’s largest investment manager by putting technology at the heart of our business. Unlike many other financial firms, our technology department is a core part of our business model and a revenue producer in its own right. As our COO Rob Goldstein puts it “curiosity, creativity and drive are essential to being students of technology and to serving our clients” and we are committed to hiring the best, brightest technologists from a wide range of backgrounds.
We strongly believe that diverse teams and perspectives lead to better creativity and output for our clients; in fact we recently demonstrated our commitment by being one of the first firms to sign the UK Charter on Women in Financial Services.
As partners of the TARGETjobs ‘IT’s not just for the boys’ program, we are looking forward to meeting top-grade engineers at the events and encouraging these talented young women to be a part of the next generation of technology leaders’
Paul Clarke, TARGETjobs account director said:
‘We are delighted to welcome BlackRock as a headline partner to this year’s series of events. BlackRock already has a great reputation for inclusion and diversity and are showing a clear commitment to support an event that not only acts as a recruitment platform, but also helps these talented women realise their own potential. Together with BlackRock, TARGETjobs are very excited to help inspire the next generation of technology talent.’
In addition to representatives from BlackRock, students get the chance to meet other organisations dedicated to developing the technology recruitment landscape. These include Accenture, Alfa, ARM, Bloomberg, BT, CGI, Citi, Deutsche Bank, EY, Goldman Sachs, IBM, ISBAN, Metaswitch, Orbium, PGDS, Skyscanner and Thoughtworks. Over 30 employers are expected to take part in the 2017/2018 programme.
