It’s Friday afternoon, and university students across the country are wrapping-up lectures and making plans for the upcoming weekend. But for a select group of students, this particular afternoon holds something quite different in store.
At the prestigious East Wintergarden in Canary Wharf, 120 students sit on the edge of their seats, eagerly waiting to find out which of them will be revealed as an Undergraduate of the Year.
The TARGETjobs Undergraduate of the Year Awards, now in its seventh year, features 12 prestigious awards, including Future Business Leader, Future CFO and Future Civil Service Leader, as well as more industry-focused categories such as Law, Engineering and Management.
The Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force were all voted frontrunners for the Best Use of Social Media award at this year's TARGETjobs National Graduate Recruitment Awards, ahead of other category contenders, Amazon, Cancer Research UK, Google, Sky, Tesco, Unilever and Virgin Media.
The military branches were all entered individually with the Navy and the Air Force coming in a respective second and third place, and the Army taking the award home for the third year in a row.
The results came from a survey of 52,000 students and recent graduates from 120 different universities in a national survey conducted each year by international research firm trendence.
The Grosvenor House on Park Lane, London was host last night to the annual TARGETjobs National Graduate Recruitment Awards, the largest graduate recruitment event in the UK.
Enterprise Rent-A-Car drove-off stiff competition, Clifford Chance, IBM, PwC, Barratt Developments, and last year’s winners, L’Oréal to win the prestigious Graduate Employer of the Year award.
Now in its twelfth year, the awards were presented by Jack Whitehall and attended by over 1,000 guests from the world of graduate recruitment. The award selections are based on a mixture of a select student judging panel, and a national survey of 52,000 students and recent graduates from 120 different universities, conducted by international research firm, trendence.

It is this growing ubiquity of the Internet of Everything (aka the ‘Internet of Things’) that led eight teams of undergraduates to Cisco’s UK headquarters on 11 February, ready to compete in the grand final of the Switch-Up Challenge.
